19 May Traveling East
My drive out here was one to remember! I drove just under 1,000 miles to get to Cuyahoga and I am so happy that I had my family drive with me. It made driving through Wisconsin, which had downpour rain and construction, and Chicago, which we hit at 3:30 pm and didn’t leave until 5:00 pm, actually enjoyable. That was the first-day drive on Friday from Minnesota to Portage, Indiana. We decided to make a drive over to Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. It was so beautiful there and it was my first time seeing Lake Michigan.

The next day, we were up bright and early to make sure we could spend as much time in Cleveland or Cuyahoga Valley as we wanted.
Seeing the “Welcome to Ohio” sign while crossing the border into Ohio
When I woke up that Friday morning to leave Minnesota, I was really nervous. I kept thinking, I am going to be gone for 11 weeks, I’m not going to see my family again until I am done, and I don’t know anyone. I tried not thinking about it and enjoyed the little time left that I had with my family. Seeing the “Welcome to Ohio” sign started putting things back into perspective that I am over 800 miles away from home and am starting a dream job in 2 days. With me being a homebody, I know that this internship is going to put me out of my comfort zone. But that is exactly what I am looking for.
