Welcome to Lava Beds

Welcome to Lava Beds

Hello! My name is Zoe Flores and I am thrilled to be a Mosaics in Science intern this summer! I am a rising senior at Cornell University in New York, but this summer, I will be on the other side of the country in Tulelake, California, working at Lava Beds National Monument as a Science Communication Assistant. The park has wide open skies, dozens of interesting lava tubes, and a rich history around the Modoc War. I am excited for my eleven weeks here and am looking forward to a summer full of bat monitoring, nighttime bat walks with the public, and incredible views!

View of the park from the fire lookout at the top of Schonchin Butte.
