Hello and welcome to my blog! I am Jorge Vargas-Barriga, a recent first-generation graduate from the University of Colorado at Boulder where I earned a B.S. in Environmental Engineering. I was born in Aurora, Colorado and have lived my whole life there. The beautiful mountain range that overlooks Denver is a daily reminder to me to appreciate and cherish nature. I am still uncertain about what I would like to do in the future, but I know that I want to make an impact on communities and their environment. This summer, I am leaving Colorado and my family for the longest stretch of time I ever have in order to explore my interests and learn more about ecology. I will be working as a Resource and Interpretation Intern at the Homestead National Historic Park in Beatrice, Nebraska, monitoring freshwater mussels. I can’t wait to get started, and I hope you join me on this journey!
