Introduction From Ocmulgee Mounds!

Hello! My name is Devante Jones and I am a Botanical Research Assistant at Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park. I will be a senior this coming Fall semester majoring in Environmental Studies and Natural Resources. My passion lies in Environmental Stewardship and activism, mainly within the physical aspect. This includes research, fieldwork, and the overall study of environmental science. I am heavily interested in Climate change and everything that it entails and is connected to. So topics that pique my interest and I have devoted time to study include pollution of all kinds; air, water, plastic, etc, along with Botany which has recently become quite thought-provoking and intriguing. When I stumbled upon this internship and dug a little deeper and read how much we would be working with plants including restoration, identification, and hands-on in-person learning, I simply could not resist and I was very excited to start! With that being said, my main goal that I want to achieve after my time spent with the internship is simply to get a better grasp of what aspirations I would like to pursue in the future. Science itself, especially environmental science, is vast and can be anything from lab work, to research, field-work, just about anything, so I want to get a taste of what all I can do and what all is being offered to me in order to see where my passion lies and what I am most interested and comfortable with following for my future.
