The goal of this project is to collect a comprehensive set of acoustic data of Saguaro National Park for a wide variety of uses, but mainly for the study of development on soundscapes and use by park planners, as well as for park interpretive use.
The Tucson Mountain District (the West District) of the park is facing major changes in the near future from development pressures. The intern’s primary work will be to collect a dataset that documents, acoustically, the current state of the park. This dataset will provide park managers with a comparative dataset that illustrates the changes to the soundscape due to development. In addition to collecting data in the West District, the intern will collect data in other areas of the park that lay next to sites with the potential for development (e.g. the Rocking K Ranch adjacent to the East District).
